The first ever Sister Joanne Connolly Scholarship was awarded on Wednesday to Sierra Hegle, a junior screenwriting and Spanish major. Under Sr. Joanne’s direction, the aim of the scholarship is to support Loyola Marymount University undergraduate students who are the first generation of their family to attend college.
Sister Joanne served as a therapist in Student Psychological Services, was the founding Director of Mission and Identity for the Division of Student Affairs, served as a Dorm Counselor in the Desmond and Tenderich Resident Halls for 13 years, and was also chaplain for the Student Workers for over 10 years. Now retired, she still continues to mentor the Student Workers. Sr. Joanne, not unlike her dear friend Sr. Peg Dolan, made her mark on LMU in many unique and often unassuming ways. Never one to put herself in the spotlight, this is the university’s time to honor her and preserve her legacy.
