Softball Coach, Seven Lions Honored by WCC

Lions softball coach Sami Strinz-Ward was named was named West Coast Conference Co-Coach of the Year while seven of her Lions were also honored including Meghan von Behren and Alex Finie, who were named All-WCC First Team.

In her final season at LMU, von Behren led the WCC with her .421 batting average, 75 total hits and 17 stolen bases. In the Lions 15 conference games, von Behren hit .362 with 17 hits, including one double and five home runs. She scored 10 runs, had nine RBI three stolen bases and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Fine, in WCC play, batted .455 with 20 hits, including five doubles and four home runs, accounting for 13 RBI. She was also perfect in the field with 102 putouts, five assists and zero errors.

LMU’s All-WCC Second Team honorees included junior outfielder Amanda Dirks, freshman pitcher Hannah Bandimere and sophomore third baseman Alicia Brown. Rounding out the honored Lions, senior designated hitter/pitcher Stephanie Crist and junior pitcher Rachael Farrington were named All-WCC Honorable Mention.

Adding to the honors, von Behren and Dirks were both selected to the 2016 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region Teams.
