For Katrina Crosby, the experience of being a student manager in the Office of the President at LMU has helped her create lasting connections and how to own her success. As she looks towards graduation this semester from LMU, she reflects on her roles as a student employee and how they have shaped her experience.

Throughout her time at LMU, Crosby has created many on campus by being going to completing a study abroad program in New Zealand, volunteering with Project Angelfood through her service organization Sursum Corda or by being the director of dining and auxiliary for ASLMU. Another one of the ways she has found connections is through working on campus as a student employee.

“From my first position of being a student assistant that took phone calls and completed secretarial work, to my new position of maintaining the President’s calendar and managing other student assistants,” said Crosby. “I find the most meaningful work is being able to connect with my coworkers.”

One of the things she will miss the most about working in the Office of the President is the people. “It’s a family atmosphere in the office, and I’m going to miss being a part of that family,” said Crosby. My bosses have seen my ups and downs while I’ve been working there and I will miss them. They understand that first and foremost we are students, so for me, this job is more like a mentorship. They want you to come for help when you have questions, and it’s great to be a part of something so helpful to me. Overall, I owe my success in this role to my great mentors and staff members who have guided me along the way. I feel truly blessed to work where I do.”

University staff also had a great learning moment by working with Crosby because they got to learn what it means for students to work in their office. “I got the opportunity to help share what it’s like to be a student worker with my bosses and has the chance to teach them at the same time they were teaching me,” said Crosby “The work is really rewarding at the end of the day, wherever you are on campus you’ve made a difference. Being able to graduate this semester and know that you gave back to the campus in some way is really rewarding.”
