ROAR Studios, Loyola Marymount University’s student-run production house, gained national recognition from the College Media Association this past October, with student films winning awards in Best Entertainment Program and the 2018 Film Festival Award. The original comedic short “Coming Out,” written, directed and produced by ROAR’s Aoife Tejada 20’, won CMA’s Pinnacle Award for Best Entertainment Program, while the international film “The Veles Conundrum,” jointly produced with Patrick Reilly ’19 by ROAR and the Los Angeles Loyolan, was awarded the 2018 Film Festival award for long documentary.

How Jon is Taking His Navy Experience to Live a Life of Purpose
Jon Harguindeguy ’19 has focused on his artwork for several years as a way to get through hard times. After returning from a four-year service in the U.S. Navy, he returned to civilian life and wanted to provide for his family. In 2017, Jon started attending Loyola Marymount University to take his interest in art and turn it into a way to give back to others by studying art therapy and demonstrating what it means to Live a Life of Purpose.
Ericka’s Journey: From Army Trainer to Writing Screenplays on the Bluff
Returning from military service to civilian life and transitioning to college life is not an easy endeavor. Which is why Loyola Marymount University’s Veteran Programs office, housed in Student Success, supports students in this transition by providing services and programs specifically for those who have spent time serving.
Veteran Programs collaborates with various departments and organizations to create a campus awareness of LMU’s veteran population. This week is Veterans Appreciation Week, LMU wants to honor, celebrate and create awareness of those students and alumni on campus who are also veterans. Ericka Salary ’19 came to LMU for the opportunity to work towards a career in the film industry and the support for student veterans.
